Oasis Black: Face & Body Elixir

I’ve had troublesome skin since I was about 12 years old, going all through high-school with acne prone skin. I tried all the fast moving skin care lines that you see in supermarkets and chemists, and even trying aggressive products containing benzoyl peroxide. None of these seemed to work for me, which ultimately led to investigating birth control, to try and manage my acne a bit better. I ended up starting on birth control pills at 18, under the recommendation of my doctor. It was until I was 26 that I decided to stop taking birth control, unbeknownst to me how my skin would react.

Fast forward 3 months, and my skin started breaking out like crazy. I hadn’t experienced acne like this since I was a teenager, and I swore my skin was even worse than I’d ever seen it.

I tried everything under the sun to fix my skin;

  • Diet changes (cutting out diary and gluten)
  • Taking supplements
  • Switching to makeup with no silicone ingredients
  • Changing my pillow case every day
  • Drinking more water
  • Exfoliating scrubs and acids

After a year of being off birth control, my skin was STILL breaking out. It wasn’t until I started using natural skincare products that I started seeing my skin start to improve. One brand that I discovered through my research was Oasis Black, who are a skincare company based in and produced in Byron Bay in Australia. It was by pure chance that I found them, and the Face & Body Elixir really intrigued me, so I reached out to get some more information.

Being relatively new to using oils, I needed all the information and advice I could get. I was lucky enough to chat directly with the owner of Oasis Black, who gave me an abundance of detail about the Elixir. She talked me through how it worked, application methods and some advice about my skincare.

As I was new to the oils, I was advised that my skin may go through an adjustment period, where you may experience a ‘purge’. I’m thankful that I was aware of this, as this was exactly what happened! After only a couple weeks of using the Elixr, my skin started to breakout like crazy. What I noticed though, was that the breakouts weren’t the same as I had been experiencing over the last 12 months. They were much smaller, and although new ones kept coming up, they were actually disappearing much faster than before.

I stuck with the Elixr though, as I had read so many great things about the success of the oils. After about 6 weeks of using the oil, I started to see my skin really improving! My breakouts had more or less disappeared, and I was shocked that even during a really stressful time in my life, I wasn’t seeing breakouts.

The only thing that I was now concerned about, was how dry my skin was. I was worried that I was having a reaction to the products, and so I touched base again with the owner to discuss. Most of the dry skin was around my forehead (not anywhere else), and I had initially thought this was linked to the seborrheic dermatitis that I had been getting really badly on my scalp. I linked this outbreak to stress, but hadn’t thought to investigate the hair care products I was using.

When I mentioned my scalp, the suggestion from the owner was that the hair care products I was using could perhaps be not only irritating my scalp, but also causing contact dermatitis on my face as well. After two weeks of not using any of those hair care products, I saw a significant reduction in my seborrheic dermatitis, and the dryness on my face was completely gone. This was a lightbulb moment when I realised that it wasn’t the products I was using on my face, but on my scalp that was causing the dry skin.

Fast forward 3 weeks of switching hair care products, and I started seeing even more amazing results from the Elixir!

My skin isn’t breaking out like it was before, and when I do break out its one small tiny pimple that generally goes away in 24-48 hours. This makes a significant change to the 2+ weeks that I was having to deal with prior to switching to natural skin care.

The dryness is completely gone, and I can’t even explain how incredibly hydrated my skin now feels! I always thought my skin was oily, and so always steered clear of using oils on my skin. What I actually realised is that my skin was probably dehydrated, and any oiliness was just an over-production of sebum due to being so dry!

Although I’ve seen fantastic results with my skin overall since switching to natural products, I’ve seen the greatest improvement since using the Oasis Black Elixir. Being someone who has suffered with acne for over 15 years, I’m very cautious about claiming that products have fixed my skin. I am however delighted to say that this product has 100% worked for me. My skin isn’t perfect yet, I still have a lot of post-inflammatory hyperpigmentaton, but I am seeing a lot of this slowly disappearing. It’s also making it easier to manage, now that my skin isn’t consistently breaking out like crazy!

Using a product in isolation to others helps to give a good understanding of whether a product is right for you. I also suggest testing a product for a significant period of time (minimum of 1-2 months) to ensure you have gone through any purge stages while your skin adjusts.

The ingredient list in the Oasis Black Elixir is pretty impressive:

  • Apricot Kernel Oil
  • Argan Oil
  • Avocado Oil
  • Black Seed Oil
  • Blueberry Seed Oil
  • Camellia Oil
  • Carrot Seed Essential Oil
  • Frankincense Essential Oil
  • Hazelnut Oil
  • Hemp Seed Oil
  • Jojoba Oil
  • Lavender Essential Oil
  • Macadamia Nut Oil
  • Pomegranate Seed Oil
  • Red Raspberry Seed Oil
  • Rosehip Oil
  • Rosemary Leaf Extract
  • Sunflower Oil
  • Sweet Almond Oil
  • Ylang Ylang Essential Oil

The real hero product is the Black Seed Oil.

Containing one of the world’s richest natural sources of Thymoquinone, Black Seeds possess an array of vitamins, minerals, proteins and a high concentration of essential fatty acids. It is thought that the combination of these and other components work in a unique synergy to give Black Seed Oil the power behind its tremendous potency and unique function.”

Something to note, is that in the beginning when I first started using the oil, I found the scent extremely overpowering. I used the product, but did find it took a bit of time to adjust to the smell. It comes from stronger smelling scents such as the hemp seed, carrot seed and frankincense. The fact that you can smell the oils really does indicate their strength, and also their purity. Now when I use the oils, I’m no longer bothered by the strong scent, as I’ve obviously adjusted and become accustomed to it.
